June 17, 2007 - Dharma Drum Mountain Monastery main bell. The entire text of the Lotus Sutra is cast on the surface of the bell. The Lotus Sutra is a central text to the Mahayana branch of Buddhism, attributed as the Buddha's last sermon, but more likely it was, after centuries of being passed down by oral tradition, compiled to reflect the trend of that branch of Buddhism which was leaning towards a wider ministry.
